Grey catkins appear in early spring and the green serrated leaves turn clear yellow in autumn and often remain on the tree for many weeks. Aspen is a large tree with a rounded habit and it can thrive in most conditions. A British native, it is best suited to large open spaces and it can also thrive on the coast. Often overlooked for planting as it is part of the Poplar family, it is a very pretty tree with a graceful elegance all of its own.
